Backup Generators | Standby Generators

Feeling Powerless? Buy A Generator.

Don’t get left in the dark! When the power fails automatic standby generators, home generators and industrial generators can restore power within seconds. Today the most common larger type of standby generators is a diesel.  New emission laws have resulted in new year model diesel generators that are more fuel efficient. They produce virtually no visible smoke and run quieter. Diesel Standby Generators or Home Generators cost less to operate, are easier to maintain and with proper maintenance can last you indefinitely. An Aurora home generator is built to last and is often used a prime source of power for homeowners living off the grid. You can use them full time or for emergency standby in trouble areas where power failures are common. Talk to us about generator standby use, we can help. Industrial Generators, Standby Generators and Backup Generators are our specialty.

How Much Power Do You Need?

10 kVA Standby Diesel Generator

Most people who buy this 10,000 Watt size generator have owned a portable generator before.  They are often looking for something bigger without spending too much money. This is the prefect next choice. For Standby Generators and Backup Generators, this is the smallest water cooled unit available. It can be run full time and uses less then 0.5 gallons per hour of fuel.  An example of what it can power would be a fridge, deep freezer, pump, TV, lights, microwave and gas furnace. If you can manage your power use, then this is enough to get you through a prolonged power failure without burning a lot of fuel or costing too much money. If air conditioning is required, consider a window air unit for emergencies or turn other things off when using this. 10,000 watts is about 80 Amps at 120 volts. Many homes across the country or in rural areas only have 100 amp service anyway.

20 kVA Standby Diesel Generators

If you do not have any 220 volt electricity hogs, such as electric heat, hot water tank, clothes dryer, range or central AC all running at the same time then 20 kVA is a reasonable size for most homes. Few run all the electricity hogs at the same time so with 20 kVA many during a power failure running on this size generator just hold back doing stove cooking or drying cloth for a later time.

30 kVA Standby Diesel Generators

Most homes have 200 amp service. Two hundred amps is 30 kVA. If you want to ignore power failures and continue living as if nothing ever happened consider this size.

40 kVA Turbo Standby Diesel Generators

Turbo Diesel Engines are more powerful and are able to operate in higher altitudes. If you understand how diesel engines work, then you know that they do not use a spark to ignite the air fuel mixture. Diesel uses heat from the air they compress in the combustion chamber. For those living in higher altitudes there is less air density so you need to ram more air into the engine so you don’t lose power. Some people just like the higher fuel efficiency turbo diesel engines have. If your one of these two, then consider this generator.

Manual or Automatic?

Unlike portable generators, most standby generators operate automatically with no human intervention. No need to move them around. No power cords to plug in run through your home. Enclosed Backup Generators are weather proof, and are installed outside on some stable ground. Our diesel generators have built in belly fuel tank for there is no need to install expensive tanks or fuel lines from the home. A larger additional tank is optional. These standby generators are self-contained. The generators can run virtually anyplace you set them down. Smaller units or sometimes put on trailers and used at job-site or just kept in storage until needed. Connection to the home for most of them only requires that the mains power be feed through them. Once the generator detects a loss of power the rest is automatic. It starts up, replaces mains power and restores power then the outage is over. Customers can save some money buy buying the same generators, but without them being fully automatic. This means you turn a key or press a button to start it. You can make your own connections or use existing ones. It is best to check with a local electrician what type of home hook up best fits your needs and if there are any local laws that govern what you can own or operate. Some customers have to follow laws for electrical approvals or building codes.
