12,000 Without Power

Southern California residents in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties lost power

Southern California authorities have ordered the evacuation of more than 60 homes because of heavy rains in a neighborhood just below an area scarred by the huge Station Fire last summer. Officials feared a number of foothill areas along the San Gabriel Mountains north of Los Angeles could be threatened by mudslides after a catch basin filled with sliding mud and debris. Elsewhere, more than 12,000 Southern California residents in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties lost power because of the heavy winter storm that could bring up to 1.25 inches of rain an hour. An American Airlines plane flying from Dallas to San Francisco made an emergency landing at San Jose International Airport because of the storm.
