900-Ton Generator Inches Across Texas

January 19th 2010

At four miles an hour, Mammoet USA is moving a 37-foot-long, 900-ton generator 226 miles from the Port of Houston to Riesel, in central Texas. The project cargo, built in Japan, will be part of a power plant.

The generator is being moved at night with a big rig powered by four Kenworth diesel engines and with 36 axles and 288 tires, according to the Montgomery County Courier. Unless slowed by rain, the journey is expected to take about 30 days, ending in early February.
